College & Career Speaker Series--In-Person Programs
College & career speakers present postsecondary and/or career information to interested students and parents during the school day. The speakers are scheduled throughout the school year for 9-12th grade students and parents. These sessions will be held in-person in the SHS Library (location subject to change) from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm.
Parents are required to RSVP to join these events below.
Students must sign up to attend through their SchooLinks account and signup under the "School Events" tab at the top of their dashboard.
- Tuesday, September 9, 2025 - College Application and SRAR Completion Sessions
- Sign up for The Common Application Session - 12:30-1:15 pm and/or the SRAR Session - 1:15-2:00 pm

- A college admissions representative will present the college application process, trends, and provide application tips for successful completion for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle. A question and answer session will follow.
- Wednesday, October 8, 2025 - Financial Aid & Scholarship Searching

- A Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) representative will be presenting pertinent financial information and timelines, and address scholarship searches, helpful websites, and recommended programs. A question and answer session will follow.
- Thursday, December 11, 2025 - Advanced Placement vs. College in High School courses
- 12:30-1:30 pm
- PARENT RSVP ONLY - AP vs. CHS Courses
- 2026-2027 registration opens on December 19, 2025, and this is a chance to hear about options for college bound students who can benefit from one or both of these opportunities to increase GPA, potentially gain college credit while in high school, and graduate with less debt and/or finish their college degrees faster.
The first part of the program will focus on the similarities and differences between Advanced Placement (AP) and College in High School (CHS - otherwise known as dual enrollment) courses presented by SV counselors. The second part will be presented by a University of Pittsburgh (one of our CHS partner colleges) representative who will talk about what the AP and CHS process looks like from the college admissions side of things. There will be time for a Q & A period at the end.
- 2026 College & Career Speaker Series--SAT & ACT Admission Exams--TBD
- 9th-11th grade students and parents are invited to attend a College & Career Speaker Series session on TBD. The session will be held in the senior high school library on the 2nd floor. Please join Goldstein Test Prep founder Mike Goldstein to discuss the following topics:
- SAT changes
- ACT changes
- Major differences between the two exams
- The importance of test scores in different admissions policies, including score optional admissions
Determining whether the SAT or ACT is best for your student
The program will include a Q&A session in which participants can ask any questions.
