The Youth Education Support Services (Y.E.S.S.) program is the Seneca Valley School District’s Student Assistance Program (SAP).  The Student Assistance Program is the Commonwealth’s vehicle to identify barriers that may impede a student’s learning and academic and personal development. The primary goal of the Student Assistance Program is to help students overcome barriers in order that they may achieve, remain in school, and advance by providing programs to address these barriers.

Barriers to a student’s learning can be complex and may include things such as a recent move or relocation, sudden grief and loss, use of mind altering substances, being the victim of violence or harassment, being a victim of bullying, poor coping skills, depression and anxiety, strained relationships, attendance issues, poor organization and study skills, and sudden change in academic achievement.

Y.E.S.S. is a multi-step process that begins with a referral that may be made by students, parents/guardians, teachers, and all other school personnel. Next, team planning occurs which leads to interventions and/or Y.E.S.S. team recommendations.  Finally, the Y.E.S.S. team continues to work with and support the referred student. The Y.E.S.S team consists of teachers, counselors, a school nurse administrators, and liaisons from the community in which are specially trained and certified by the PA sate student assistance providers to work with students.

Y.E.S.S. also has a prevention component which promotes healthy lifestyles through student education, leadership programs, and alternative activities.

Any Seneca Valley Senior High School student is encouraged to report or refer a peer to Y.E.S.S if they have a concern about a fellow student or if they believe that a peer is in danger.
