Students awarded at Family, Career and Community Leaders of America conference
Four Seneca Valley students were recently announced as winners at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference. Students competed in job interviewing, career investigation, interior design and PA menu planning. The team also won awards for their participation in national programs, including Families First, Student Body and Community Service and took first place in the poster contest.
Gold medal winners include senior Fletcher Boice and junior Jilly Kreke. These gold medal recipients will attend the National FCCLA Competition in Washington, DC over July 6–10, where they'll compete with medal winners from across the country and participate in leadership workshops and networking sessions. Also, a gold medalist is senior Leah Paxton, who placed first in her category in Pennsylvania Menu Planning. Additionally, sophomore Georgie Guzzo won a silver medal.
The mission of the FCCLA is to promote personal growth and leadership development through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader, members develop skills for life through character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge and career preparation.
The Seneca Valley FCCLA club is led by Ms. Carrie Ehrenberger, Family and Consumer Science teacher at the Intermediate High School. The FCCLA state leadership conference was held at the Kalahari Resort in Pocono Manor, March 23-25. The conference gave students the opportunity to compete in their events and opportunities to attend interactive leadership workshops.
